AI-Based Innovations in School and Education
AI-Based Innovations in School and Education is an Open Access edited volume that explores the pedagogically meaningful integration of artificial intelligence into school education. The contributions examine how AI, particularly generative AI, can support lesson planning, classroom instruction, learning diagnostics, and school development while emphasizing educational quality, critical reflection, and responsible implementation. This edited volume originated from the Master's seminar AI-Based Educational Innovations in School and Education, offered at the University of Konstanz during the 2025/2026 academic year. Rather than evaluating existing AI applications, the contributing authors developed theoretically grounded and research informed concepts that address authentic educational challenges through artificial intelligence. The chapters combine educational theory, empirical literature, and instructional design to present innovative approaches for AI supported teaching and learning. Topics covered include generative AI in lesson planning, AI supported instructional design, intelligent tutoring systems, adaptive learning diagnostics, AI assisted professional development for teachers, and conceptual frameworks for responsible AI integration. The volume highlights both the opportunities and the limitations of AI in education and contributes to current discussions on educational innovation, teacher professionalization, and AI competency development. This publication is intended for researchers, teacher educators, teachers, school leaders, policymakers, and students interested in the future of artificial intelligence in education. It is published as an Open Access volume under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
