AI-Driven Synthesis for High-Tech System Design: Automating Innovation

Luuk Oerlemans, Steven Westerhof, Theo Hofman

This article addresses the combinatorial complexity inherent in modern high-tech system design by presenting automation-in-design (AiD) as a transformative paradigm. We propose computational design synthesis (CDS), a framework utilising deep learning and generative AI to automate the creation of novel systems. Two case studies (e-drive system design and spatial dimensioning problem) serve as proof-points for this approach. The AI-driven methods used in the case studies represent a fundamental shift in engineering, advancing from simulation-based optimisation towards autonomous design with minimal human supervision.

Practical Judgment, Virtue, and Intuition in the Use of Opaque AI-Enabled Systems

Nathan G. Wood, Andrew P. Rebera

AI-enabled systems are seeing increasing deployment across numerous domains, with many being "black boxes" with respect to core functions and capabilities. I.e., many systems take inputs and give outputs, but without users having any ability to see how the former lead to the latt…

Optimizing ML Workload Partitioning between CPUs and CIM Accelerators for Heterogeneous Computing

Joel Klein, Rebecca Pelke, Roberto Laudani, Jan Moritz Joseph, Rainer Leupers

Computing-in-Memory (CIM) accelerators execute Matrix-Vector Multiplications (MVMs) in memory, making them a compelling solution for Machine Learning (ML) workloads. However, existing ML workload partitioning approaches for CIM accelerators do not fully account for Resistive Rand…

Auto-DSM Under the Lens: A Black-Box Evaluation Framework for LLM-Based DSM Generation

Niels Potters, Theo Hofman

This paper presents a black-box evaluation framework to systematically assess the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate Design Structure Matrices (DSMs) from structured technical documentation. Motivated by the closed-source nature of current Auto-DSM pipelines, the…

Memory Scarcity, Open Models, and the Restructuring of the AI Industry, 2026-2030 -- A quantitative scenario analysis of inference economics, training-cost divergence, and infrastructure solvency

Satoshi Matsuoka

We analyze how four forces restructure the AI industry over 2026-2030: the DRAM/HBM price surge, frontier-capable open-weight models (GLM-5.2), rapid inference-efficiency gains (near-Shannon-limit KV-cache compression, lightweight local runtimes), and the entry of Meta and xAI in…

COLIP-2: Olfaction-Vision-Language Embeddings

Kordel Kade France

The Contrastive Olfaction-Language-Image Pre-training 2 (COLIP-2) model is a multimodal embeddings space that places olfaction as a first-class citizen among vision and language. Molecular structure, gas-sensor readings, odor-descriptor language, and images are all trained into a…

Unsupervised Consensus-Based Anomaly Detection for Spatiotemporal Malaria Incidence in Ghana

T. Ansah-Narh, Y. Asare Afrane

A consensus anomaly detection framework was applied to monthly malaria surveillance data from Ghana (2014-2023) to identify atypical transmission patterns. Anomalies were highly structured in space and time. Ashanti and Northern Regions accounted for most recurrent anomalies, wit…
